Summary Of This Class
Reading For Pleasure was a very different experience for me. I don't usually ready books just to read them: only when I have to. But I've realized its not actually that bad, I have to find a book I'm interested in. The three books I've read during this semester is the most I've ever read in this amount of time. I've also noticed that those three books had the same thing in them, high school drama: relationships, friendships, and personal home problems. Reading these on my own time was okay but I think I would have been more engaged if we would've had class discussions on the books, that would've made me more excited to read. Overall I'm glad I had the chance to take this class because I read books on my own and got the chance to realize reading isn't that bad!

Bronx Masqerade; Last
I kind of expected what happens at the end of the book. All of the teens attending the high school found that anybody can do Open Mike. Each student in the class performed at the poetry assembly at the end of the year. Some of their work even got published in the news paper. The students all became closer than they were at the begining of the year. They learned about each other through their poetry readings. Problems differed, some had confidence problems, self-esteem, and problems at home. Next year they're suppose to be having the Open Mike class again. I wonder how that will go.

Bronx Masquerade pt. 2
Continuing this book, I changed my mind about somethings like the personalities of these characters. All of the people are very caring deep down under all of their acts. I wonder why they're hiding their talents. Is it because going to that school you're suppose to be 'hard', have no feelings or what? I think that the way they are acting is very childlike. Because why not show or let people know what you are going through, but then again somethings are too hard to talk about. Like Gloria, she's a single mother and attending school. Life has to be hard for he. On top of that I think she had the baby just so she can be attatched to the babys father. Uhh STUPID! Why would you do something like that. Use your brain girl! Then it's this girl named Janelle, she has self-esteem problems. She's 'fat', well thats what you think. I think you should be proud of how you look no matter how you look. Your beter than that Janelle. That's all for now.

Bronx Masquerade
This book grabbed my attention on the first page. The first main character is a young teenaged boy named Tyrone Bittings saying that he doesn't really like school but his mother doesn't approve of that. Raynard is one of his friends that thinks school is good. Tyrone isn't up with Raynard's whole school is good act, he thinks that the 'white folks' tell you what you want to hear but doesn't believe you can achieve. At school there is this art class that they attend where they do art or poetry. Nobody in the class is interested in these activities. Well at least they're not showing it. I think this is a good introduction telling somethings teens go through having an African American family and attending school.
